4 Ways to Get Rid of Mice without Killing them

4 Ways to Get Rid of Mice without Killing them

You have a rodent problem. You want to get rid of them, but you don’t want to kill them either. Killing mice and rats isn’t a good solution for anyone, whether you’re an animal lover or simply don’t want to clean up dead rodent bodies. Check out our favorite methods for keeping your home rodent-free by repelling them naturally instead of killing them:

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil has long been regarded as an effective, natural way to deter mice and rats from wherever you don’t want them to be. While we love the scent of peppermint (and if you don’t, maybe this isn’t the solution for you), rodents can’t stand it and will avoid it at all costs. Make sure you get 100% pure peppermint oil, apply it to cotton balls and place them wherever you don’t want rodents to infest. Keep in mind, peppermint oil wears off quickly, so you will need to reapply it once every 2 days.

Ultrasonic Devices

There are devices available that emit ultrasonic frequencies, which are above the upper limit of human hearing (we cannot hear them) but can be detected by small animals and insects. When mice or rats hear these sounds, they will avoid the area at all costs! This is the perfect solution for keeping rodents out without spending money continually or using chemcials.

Dryer Sheets

Dryer sheets are another way to repel mice, but are less work than peppermint oil because you don’t have to replace them often. Simply place the dryer sheets around the desired area and mice will avoid it. This can be cheaper than other solutions because you may have these lying around anyway.

Sprays with Essential Oils

The right blend of essential oils can smell pleasant to humans while smelling downright awful to mice and rats. Making a blend yourself is too much work and is too complicated. Instead, buy pre-made blends that can be sprayed into effected areas to keep mice and rats out. This solution is popular because it can be used both indoors and outdoors (perfect if you want to keep your shed or barn free of rodents).
